Sustainable development - development that meets the needs of the present without compromising those of the future – begins with respect for future generations. Youth is considered one of the nine key stakeholders of the Agenda 2030 – the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that young people are aware and conscious of the local and global issues related to sustainability as well as empowered to voice out their positions and perspectives on them. Youth work plays an important role in youth empowerment and democratic participation. Therefore, empowering youth workers to endeavor for a more sustainable future is important.


🎯 AIM AND OBJECTIVES

This training course aims to contribute to the strategic goal to strengthen the role of youth work in the sustainable development of society by integrating the principles, approaches and tools of education for sustainable development and global citizenship education in youth work activities on local, national and international levels. This training course will specifically focus on YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND PARTICIPATION in sustainable development.

Objectives of the training course:

  1. Discuss the role of young people and youth work in dealing with major sustainability issues on local and global levels;

  2. Understand the context and core principles of sustainable development and global citizenship, focusing on youth empowerment and democratic participation;

  3. Practice tools and methods that help young people develop their global citizenship competencies and empower them to take action on local and global sustainability issues;

  4. Discover good practices on youth involvement in governance and decision-making on organisational and local levels;

  5. Explore the role of the Erasmus+ programme towards the promotion of youth participation;

  6. Provide a safe space for intercultural dialogue, sharing, networking and partnership building.


Suggested topics for the training course:

  • Understanding local-global connections;

  • Sustainable development, UN Sustainable Development Goals and youth

  • Good governance in the context of sustainable development;

  • Global (citizenship) competence

  • Learning models, methods and tools for building young people’s consciousness and making them active on global issues;

  • Inclusive decision making;

  • The role of good governance in sustainable development;

  • Youth involvement in governance and decision making – organisational and local perspective (good practices from Lithuania);

  • Networking, building potential future partnerships


🔍 PARTICIPANTS' PROFILE


  • Youth workers, youth leaders, or educators engaged in youth centers, youth organisations, or any entity providing diverse activities for and with young people;

  • Mentors, trainers, and coordinators actively involved in local and/or international youth activities outside the formal education sector.

  • Have medium, minimal or no prior experience in the fields of sustainable development, global citizenship and youth participation;

  • Motivated to enhance their professional competencies, aiming to incorporate global citizenship and sustainability principles into their daily interactions with young people;

  • At the time of the training course, they are not participating in any other Erasmus+ long-term project (e.g., Student exchange, Solidarity Corps or Erasmus Internship);

  • Have a good command of English;

  • Can participate in the entire program of the training course.


💱 COSTS

The organisers will provide the food and accommodation and pay for it. Travel costs will be counted based on the distance calculator of the European Commission and reimbursed by bank transfer after the course (in EUR) through the sending organisations. According to the distance calculator for Armenia, the maximum travel cost is 395 euros.
