About the Event

Social media are easily available to disseminate false information deliberately. Thus, initially, independent and open platforms for communication are being exploited for subversions and political manipulation. In our opinion, young people should become multipliers in developing critical skills

and promoting social media literacy. However, as our previous experience shows, a lot of youngsters do not have the necessary skills to filter the massive amount of information and check its credibility. This is especially relevant for youth with fewer opportunities. Therefore, young leaders from participating organisations have decided to take a proactive position and elaborate a strategy to deal with social media manipulations by implementing the "Clickbait" project.

The project "Clickbait" was developed by young people to create a grassroots movement of critical thinking and filtering information. We face fake news in social media every day and sometimes also become victims of disinformation, sharing fakes with families and friends. We strongly believe that working together with active young people from the Netherlands, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia and Moldova during

this project will lead to exchanging good practices from different backgrounds and coming up with new solutions to the problem of fakes in social media. We believe in training on the above problems and nonformal education as an essential component of overcoming fakes and seek to magnify the reach of critical thinking towards a broader range of people beyond those affiliated with the project.

The main goal of the project is to develop an innovative and engaging method to educate young people about social media literacy and application of

critical thinking to the information they receive. The project contributes to engaging and empowering young people to become active and the responsible citizens of Europe with necessary competencies for critical thinking and promoting social media literacy. It provides an opportunity for 40 youngsters from 8 European countries to work together, establish a network of fakefighters and get connected to the Erasmus+ program.

During this youth exchange, participants will raise personal awareness on the topic of disinformation, learn how to analyze different sources of information and deal with manipulations in social networks. They will become social media literate and launch their own online campaign on this topic. With the assistance of experienced coordinators and group leaders, youngsters will work together to find out how to not get lost in a huge amount of information.
